Hypancistrus sp. L340 spawning
Posted: 19 Jan 2012, 10:08
I bought 10 Hypancistrus sp. L340 from Ukrainian breeder 15.10.2010 in size 3 cm TL. They were already 3-4 month old. I put them in 100 l tank. Half an year later I moved them to the 140l 80X35X50 (height=50) furnitured with clay, bone caves, some bog wood, fine sand and a brunch of Echinodorus amazonicus. They are still in this tank. From time to time I changed their neighbours, for some period there were a more then 10 Ancistrini sp. L127 from 3 to 5 cm long. Also due to lack of spare tanks and as the Hypancistrus sp. L340 was young I put to this tank all my redundant males of other Hypancistrus species.
There were 3 males Hypancistrus sp. L411 and 3 males Hypancistrus sp. L287.
And due to the big quantity of Hypancistrus species I received Hypancistrus hybrids 09.11.2011.
Here is a thread about this hybrid:

It is not good. And now I'm in a progress of fixing problem of possible hybridization by splitting the Hypancistrus species in separate tanks.
Filtration is one 1200 l\h pomp with a sponge, 100 w heater and two T8 75 cm 25 W lamps.
Firs spawnings were in tap water 500 microsimens and 300 ppm. But not often. After I changed 70% to RO water (140 ppm, and 215 microsimens) they spawned the very next day. The temperature always 30 C. But water changes with 5-10 C.
There I'm going to share daily report of the last spawning.
Male:
Female:
Pair (male on the left):
Eggs in the bone cave:
Eggs:
Fry first day:
Fry 1 day:
It is strange but one of the fry was with quite small yolk (on the right). In the result it died the next day when the yolk sucked out, but the fry where still to small.
Does anybody has any ides why such could happen?
Fry 2 day:
Fry 3 day:
Fry 4 day:
Fry 5 day:
