Has anyone ever heard of a Panda pleco?
From another board I'm on
"Have you ever heard of a panda pleco?
There was a tiny pleco today at the store with that name, he looked like a zebra pleco but was definitely not a zebra (mainly black with very thin white lines) - anyway he was really cute but I can't find anything looking like this in my plecos database."

cost approx. 20 USD.

L066? Kinda hard to match anything definite, since there are quite a number of black and white striped plecos.

Or Queen arabesque L260...they seem to flood the market here...lots of people breed them in Germany as it seems. They cost 25.- euro here

Could it be Peckotia sp L134
Or Dekeyseria (Zonancistrus) pulcher.
These are often said to be similar to Hypancistrus zebra

Thank you for the responses. I posted them to the fellow who seen the plec, so far it's not an L066, his words "no L066, no way. "Mine" was totally black with very thin white stripes from head to toe"

Could it be L260? I've never heard of panda pleco as a common name pleco.

L-204 Panaqulous (panaque) sp. comes to mind. I've never heard them referred to as "panda" but the ones I have seen are black with very thin white stripes.

Well if totally black with thin white line it must be Hypancistrus sp "Queen Arabesque" L260
Pseudolithoxus tigris also have similar colour pattern but has different body shape!

No luck yet, here's more on the plec he saw

My guess is a juvenile L-204 Flash Pleco just like what flyinmike says...
Dark or black body, with white stripes from top(dorsal) to bottom...

I'm not sure I've seen any ray-finned fish with toes before, but presumably Christina's friend means "head to tail", which is a bit different from dorsal to ventral. Maybe this is a pleco which marches on its stomach with metaphorical toes -- who knows without a picture? -- in which case you would be correct.

OK, I am going to try one last time.

Here are the only two plecos I know with parallel stripes along the body that have not been previously mentioned:

Juvenile Panaque nigrolineatus (although the body shape is nothing like a zebra's, and the stripes are neither thin nor white.

Hisonotus leucofrenatus:

Again, the body shape is not like that of a zebra, and the stripes aren't really well defined.

If those aren't it, I give up.

I know that an imported undescribed species of Otocinlus is being imported as Otocinclus sp "Panda" but that is it.
Could it be such fish? I think I have seen pictures but can't remember where exactly...

Thank you all for your time and thoughts. I know its hard without a pic, so I do appreciate this. So far no go, but I haven't posted Yann's possibility of an oto.
