Would like to know peoples' experiences with these 2 species- hardiness, aggressiveness, if they come outduring day, etc.

I dont know about their hardyness but you that you need a pond for those?
I read sth about genibarbis in Mergus 5 but cant remeber a whole lot...just that it gets really big...

I have 3 L95.. and they are indeed very beautiful and peaceful. they kinda swim gracefully and ive never seen them being aggresive

I've never kept that one but in my general experience it's not so much night and day as it is movement and noise around the tank. Both of my big tanks (110x&55) are in my bedroom. Little or nothing outside the tanks but me. Those plecs are out all different times of the day. However, my 29 in the living room sees a lot of movement and noise around the tank (kids, friends, TV, etc.). The two in that tank never come out during the day and or when the lights and tv are going. I only get to see them when cleaning or at night for a few moments with a flashlight.

I have an L95 - about six inches long. It seems to be a tough, shy, big and I hate to say it, but so far fairly ugly pleco. I hear they get orange cheeks someday, I am still waiting for mine to get them.

I've kept L-95's 4 about 7 year's and they are most peaceful pleco going.

both pretty hardy. L095 Pseudorinelepis genibarbis maxed out at 12"SL.

What sizes are the rest of you finding?

I have some experiences with L95 in the wild and in aquarium

It's a very very hardy fish that can tolerate incredible water conditions (ie. very low oxygen level, muddy high temperature water). They are able to gulp air at the surface to breath. They can even survive a few hours without water !!.

Caboclos call them bodo pedra (=stone) because they don't move too much and this can also be observed in aquarium.

Plenty of food must be provided and this is to my belief the most critical point as some individuals seem to starve to death.

About size : maximum size observed around 40 cm. At this size they are good to eat !!

One question: is the L95 sold by peruvian exporters exavctly the same as the L95 from Rio N egro ?

Hi Magnum, Hope u don't mind but I gotta asked this. I thought that L113 is Megalancistrus Gigas and L234 is Megalancistrus Parananus as stated in the L-number book.

Anyway, L113 is generally quite peaceful and it max out around 50cm and L234 on the other hand can be very aggressive towards any plecos who intrude into its territory and it max out around 70cm according to a taiwanese fish magazine.

L95 is the most graceful pleco I ever seen and it is indeed very peaceful....a must have!

According to a few different sources (including Planet Catfish) L113=L234. But I'm always interested to read other points of view. Are there any websites saying they are different species?

True, but other sites and PC have lumped them together. will wait until the next L book to see if there is a change
