Missing fish

Hi all
Have a small problem/question
I recently "rescued" from a guy who was going to dump, 3 synos- I had a cycled 125 litre long tank on an external canister and took them on.
Mats very kindly informed me that he thought they were standard hybrids and were indeed a lot lighter than the true featherfins I have in another tank
I noticed that their whiskers were longer though..
They settled in fine and are feeding well. The longest being about 6 inches long, the other two about an inch and a half smaller
I put in a couple of caves and a massive piece of bogwood with java fern and anubias on that they enjoy swimming amongst.
About a week ago, I purchased three melon barbs to go in with them....all about an inch and a half in length.
Have just gone to do a water change and one of the barbs is missing- no body no nothing.Removed all the decoration and checked pipes etc- still nothing
So I am assuming/hoping that it died and was eaten by the rest of the tanks inhabitants as often happens- what does concern me though is if it was taken by the synos- Can they be aggressive and kill fish? Never experienced anything like this with other synos before.
Should add that they are all fed once a day on a combination of flake and algae wafers and also get live bloodworm once or twice a week
Any suggestions welcome.....
