Who has kept Pseudocetopsis?

Post by kruseman »

I found this rare species (P. plumbea) on a stocklist in Germany.

Can anybody comment on the possible keepability of this rare catfish?

Thanks in advance!

No sorry. A shop I know had some in and they fed on bloodworm but he kept them in a group on their own and I'm sot sure how long he kept them before selling them. My friend has kept Denticetopsis, which were peaceful and accepted live food.

thanks!
So is there a possibility that this species attacks larger fish like some Cetopsis do?

I bought 3 Denticetopsis seducta (or something similar) last saturday and am very happy with this new species.
Funny little guys who resemble my Centromochlus concolor a bit in behaviour and appearance.
They readily accept frozen food and are as nocturnal as all my other catfish :YMSIGH: ;)

I'll try to add a picture soon.

Probably not. Possibly Diskusmann or Glaser.

Possible locality leans more towards seducta but it seems more like praecox to me (based on the revision of the family by Vari et al 2005 - lightly pigmented pectoral fin and caudal fin).

Thanks!
I'm not aware of a possible locality. Could you please expand on that , Darkone?

praecox has been found in the Upper Negro River basin, southern Venezuela whereas seducta is widespread in Peru and possibly Brazil and Ecuador. I know they appear on Peruvian lists so although it doesn't necessarily mean they have been caught in Peru I think it is more likely than Venezuelan fish. It might help if you could try and find out their origin but they look like praecox to me.
