Ompok information ?

Post by Stackdeck »

Got this fish recently , a shipment of ''Wallago leeri'' from Thailand turned out to these Ompok instead. Should be the more common but this got me wondering ont the distribution for O.siluroides , do they only occur in Java , Indonesia ? Thanks in advance.

I think that's incorrect. If we look at , it says that it's widespread. From past discussions, I seem to remember that HH said that Ompok bimaculatus only occurs on the Indian Subcontinent, which would make all the other occurrences listed in the above Cat-eLog page to be O. siluroides (edit: except Bangladesh, I suppose).

I never managed to find any consistent differences between the Ompok from Thailand and those from Java, so I consider all the Southeast Asian species (except those from eastern Borneo) to be the same.
