Bamboo food ?
Have any of you tried feeding bamboo to your fish[ancistrus] ?
I have a good stand of bamboo. If it's ok would it be best in a green state or dead and dried?
also has anyone tried aloe vera plant ,it is a succulent and I ingest it to clam my stomach.

Re: Bamboo food ?
Very fresh bamboo shoots (as used in for example Chinese cooking) is probably a good food. The green "grass" is not...
I have no idea about aloe. I expect you meant calm rather than clam?

Aloe leaves ooze a lot of sap.
I would suspect that could lead to water quality issues if you put some in your tank.

Re: Bamboo food ?
Not Ancistrus, but I have had good luck feeding the "root balls" of bamboo to Panaque spp. Other than the bamboo shoots Mats mentioned (which I have not tried myself), I can't imagine Ancistrus eating bamboo. They do spawn in the hollow tubes of bamboo in the wild.

Re: Bamboo food ?
So far nothing has eaten the bamboo I guess I'll try the root ball .Do you parboil it first or feed it right out of the ground?

Re: Bamboo food ?
The problem with Bamboo shoots is that it's rather strong in flavour, so not even all Chinese people eat it (I don't).

Just wash it off and put it in the tank.Do you parboil it first or feed it right out of the ground?
