Please ID my plecos

Just got 2 plecos about 5cm for few days, I have no idea about what they are? L236? L333 or L066? Thanks for your help!

Look like young L333.

I was told by the seller that it was L236. Was it really difficult to tell the L236/L066 and L333 when they are still young? Is there any clear sign ( color / line /body shape/ Eye shape or eye color....... ) to help indentify? Thanks!

Considering that true L236 is nearly non-existant, it's UNLIKELY that they are.

And yes, small Hypancistrus are very hard to diagnose.

L333 youngsters

The white lines are too thin comparing with the black lines\body marking of the L236.

Notice that the white body waves\lines are thinker then the black ones, This is one of the characteristics of the hypancistrus L236 that truly believe its a good lead.

Your opinion was very useful, Actually I think the color and shape of the waves/lines was the most important to tell what they are, but someone told me the head and eye was the key matter, I am very confused about that!

There are many opinion about this and its hard for all of us to agree with each other.

We do not see them coming to the hobby very often so its hard to ID them when smaller then 3" inches, and even then you can never be 100% sure that you have the real deal.

There'll always be someone telling you otherwise

The best thing to do is to let them grow to a good 3" inches or more and then post pics again.

Unless it's a particularly pretty variant of L134, it's most likely not got any L-number.

That's a very strange looking fish. Looks like a cross between a Peckoltia compta and something else!!

It is Peckoltia compta. This specimens are very rare, but here and there they appear between normally patterned.

As stated above, this particular fish hasn't got an L-number. It looks like it could be a

Peckoltia compta

(aka L134) with some sort of genetic defect/variation. Of course, without knowing where it came from (as in which river, not what shop, exporter or wholesaler), it's hard to say for sure what it is..
