Hi,

Can someone ID my son's brown pleco, named Wood. Is about 7cm SL, 10cm TL, and has lived with us for just over a year.

Thanks,

Looks like it's going to get big:

It'll get big, but it's not Pterygoplichthys, as there are too few dorsal-fin rays. I think it's a member of the Hypostomus cochliodon group.

HH, your eyesight [or screen] is clearly better than mine. I'm not going to argue with it.

Good eyesight indeed, Wood was out just now and I counted 8 rays on his dorsal fin.

He's in a 70cm tank at the moment so will look at moving him up to one of my 120cm tanks soon, the aquatics shop said he would grow to 10-15cm so off the mark there.

I agree with HH on this one. I also took it that the fish's name was a pretty good hint.

If he ever ended up with the colouration of the first faveolus picture I'd be over the moon :d

Looking closely at his head he does look to have the lines effect on him, it isn't very standout but is definitely there.

The slightly smaller adult size is good news too, makes it less of a panic for rehousing him up.
