Finally my group have manage to breed.
The male have been guarding the eggs since monday night.

This morning they have start to hatch. I found 2 fry and 3 eggs outside the cave.
The male is still protecting the rest in his cave.

Yesterday I empty a smaller aquarium, and filled up with water from the main tank, and put him into there alone.

Today i also found a new spawn on the Panaque L169. It look like its breeding season here

How big are your L114's, how big is the tank, how many L114's do you keep in the tank, is it a special tank, or a community tank?

The aquarium I keep them in is 250 liter. I keep 8 speciments there.
2 is for sure males, think the rest is females.
The tank size is 100cm , 50cm, 50 cm.
I only have sand on bottom and mangrove for hiding. One single ceramic breedingcave.
I had 3 caves, but removed.
There are around 30 degree in the water.
One outside filter that run750 liter/h eheim.
One inside filter 3000 L/H aquarium system powerhead for sirkulation
Both pumps have "Diffusor", to make more oxygen..

Its normally a species tank, but for the moment i keep one big male crenicichla lenticulata with them.
Thats the main reason I moved the male into his own tank.

5 eggs was trowed out today. I put them into a babybox. 2 is hatched.

Congratulations! What a great accomplishment!

If you set a flat rock under the door edge of the cave so it is angled slightly down at the back, the male will stop having the eggs blown out of his cave, I've found. Hopefully your little escapers will survive in their condo .

Thanks for the help:) I have done it now. Hope there is no more playful babies that want to run out now.
I have like 30 in the box now that already had escaped or got throw out.

I upgraded the box to a bigger one, with airstone and gravel. its holes in the side that make water go in and out.
Hope I dont stressed him to much. He look like a good first time father.

Congrats! I really appreciate the simplicity of your set-up. Might I ask how large (total length) your male and female are, and approximate age of your spawning pair??

Good job! it is nice to see others having success with 114's. Just one helpful comment - keep the lights low until 1 week after they lose the egg sack. This will reduce the stress and be more like inside the cave.

I have a group of 10 fish, the biggest one is about 16cm TL, and the smallest about 10cm TL.
I hope within a year or 2, to breed with this fish.

I'm planning on moving my group to a smaller aquarium sens they haven't bred for almost a year now... I had more "breeding activities" when I had them in a smaller aquarium than in the large one... but I know that Jim has other, better experience from breeding them in bigger tanks...

The babies is growing quite fast! They are eating waffers and frozen food.
Some are still in the cave with the dad, but it seems like he want them to leave. He is more in the opening of the cave, than inside. They have colloured into black/white spotted.
I have some new photos, but no online connection at home, so i have to add them later when i get it back.

The babies are growing. All of them have left their father a week ago.
I feed them with cyclops, daphnia, jbl waffers and some flakes.

The orange collour is starting to show up. I removed 29 of them today from the original aquarium into a smaller frybox that is ventilated with water from the main tank. I found out that the first 15 babies i took out was growing twice as much as the rest. And it has been no loss in the box.

I remember how impressed I was with the large L114's Barbie had when I visited her 5 years ago. They are very handsome plecos.

Ole, your brooding male seems to be a dedicated guy if he continued to provide brood care after being transferred.
I use very basic breeding set ups for my plecos too.
I always include some wood and fewer caves than I have females as you did. I think when the rival females have to compete for the right to breed with a male that was dominant enough to take and hold a cave against all rivals, this helps encourage spawns. It's just a hypothesis but it seems to work for me but I only keep smaller species.
It will be nice to see when your fry have finished their larval development and perhaps a couple weeks of growth.
I am impressed by the dedication it takes and the successes that have resulted among those who have seriously attempted breeding some of the larger attractive pleco species.
Years ago I wouldn't have believed it was even possible.
