My better half just purchased some edamame ( I haven't tried it yet)and I'm just curious if anyone here has fed it to your loricarids? If so, how did you prepare it for their consumption? I'm thinking of feeding it to my bristlenose. Yea, yea I'll try it eventually.

I've never heard of it, so don't know it they'll eat it. For some reason, I just pictured you moving a BN tank close to the dinner table to "hide the evidence".

Might be a bit salty, but definitely worth a try.

Frozen broad (=fava) beans, are also very good, and might be a bit cheaper.

They are a fancy Japaneese term for soy beans that are still in the pod. It's a restaurant term used to make things sound more expensive so they can charge you more, and here in the U.S. people fall for it every day

I'm thinking of starting a green pea farm and inventing a word for green peas in the pod I think I'll call them "stolto"<--- Italian for foolish

Back to the topic, I couldn't see they would do any harm but remember if your experiment fails you might lose the fish. I use potato, sweet potato, and zuchinni

Yes, most legumes tend to be quite protein rich for a vegetable.

No, I think its perfect.

I have a feeling that it is not the protein in food per se that disagrees with herbivorous fishes, it's the lack of fibre in the food that prevents movement through gut and can cause problems.

I've found that feeding protein rich food is fine, as long as there is a decent fibre component offered in the diet too, and importantly fed regularly.

I see so that may be what causes the bloat with more carnivorous plecos associated with feeding them meaty foods, the lack of fiber perhaps.

Yup, that's my gut feeling ...

I got the answer put a couple drops of BEANO in the tank so the little guys don't fart so much.

Just curious....Did you ever get around to feeding the edamame to your BN Pleco's?
