Well up here they would only be like 10 bucks each.

I hope Inbarbie already found their answer but Australia is funny when it comes to pricing - the country is so restricitive when it comes to nonnative wild life import. If you have not found your answer yet in 3 months, let us know and I hope an Aussie will chime in.

Given that this list here shows that they are illegal to import into Australia, and not really known to breed easily, I'd expect that they are quite pricey.

Locally bred specimens were available from Australia's largest wholesaler recently. They were $55 each, in the shops they will probably be around $140-$170.

I was going to point out that those are Australian dollars, but checking it, one AUD is 0.95 USD anyways, so yes, the fish are about 5-10x the price you'd expect to pay in the US or in Europe - mainly because they are not allowed to be imported, so any fish available is either smuggled in or locally bred - and they don't breed like rabits.

Yes. I believe the breeder was able to produce only 8 after years of trying. Still, a pretty amazing achievement. The same breeder produces fairly large batches of Platydoras armulatus on a regular basis.
