I bought a pair of these a month ago as Synodontis petricola burundi dwarf. I automatically assumed lucipinnis, but after reading the forum and shanesworld articles I'm not so sure. Can anyone verify what they actually are? I'm not normally into African catfishes, but have wanted to attempt a spawn from one of the petricola types for years.

p.s. forgive the pic quality. I just got this camera a couple hours ago and still getting used to it.

looks like my lucipinnis, looks female also. or maybe the camara angle.

I would call it a as well.

Lucipinnis - is the one behind it the same? - it looks larger and as i can't see the body i wondered if that might be petricola???

I'm glad to know that there is some agreement on the species. The pic is of the female. I was actually thrown by the difference in spot size and overall size of the male. There is a comment in the species ID in the catelog that mentions the spots on the head of petricola being smaller than those on the body as an ID tool. The male, although still within the size range for lucipinnis, is so close to 4 inches SL that my ruler can't tell the difference. Very rare to see a fully grown fish. Both the overall proportions and color pattern of both are the same. The angle isn't the best, but I've added a pic of the male.

I would also agree luci - spot size, irregularity, etc and in the last pic of the male, the white triangle within the black on the anal fin is more representative of the luci than the all black triangular markings on the fins of the petricola.
