Hello
I just got these very beautiful catfishes, but I have no idea what L numbers they might be or if they are hybrids.
Can anyone help me here ?
I think these are one of the most stunning catfishes I have in my collection right now.
I will soon make a updated list on my webpage http://www.discusdynasty.dk

Hi,

nice Hypancistrus! Are they wildcaught ore tankbreed? They look typical for Hypancistrus sp. L66 youngsters. Time will tell, in this age it's hard to say.

Taking pictures in a blue painted tank is not a good idea for identifying. The body color looks white, even when the fish are dark yellow or greyish. This is usually just a trick to make L 66 look like something special.

Greetings

Yes I agree with you.
A blue background its not a good idea.

They do look like L66 to me.

Okay L66.. they dont look like the otherĀ“s L66 i have had in my tanks.
but i will let the doubt stand for now...

I agree they dont look good in these discus tank, where they are in quantine.

The are around 7 cm. now, if the size could help.
I could try to get some better photos.

They do look like juvenile tank raised L66 to me, too.
Most Hypancistrus have a gracile build when they are about that age/size. They will get much larger and fairly quickly if they are indeed tank raised L66. Then they will bulk up in the body build as the grow larger.
I can't think of another species which is a good alternative candidate species.
Here are some of my L333 of similar size/age I raised for comparisons sake.

Hi Saul,
Thank you for the compliments.
We should exchange some e-mails to catch up on things a bit since it has been awhile.

I would also suggest L66-but at that size it is very difficult to say for certain. Regardless they are beautiful!

Oh and as an explanantion why they may not look like your other 66s: I believe there is more than one collection point for L66 but I could be wrong...

I agree with dconners post above.
The various "scribbled" patterned Hypancistrus are very variable with regard to original locations and ages.
Zebra plecos are remarkable for their pattern consistency.
