Sold to me as L344's

Hi everyone!!!

In september 2009 I purchased a pair of plecos at the 2009 Midwest Cichlid Association Expo in Kansas City. The seller said that they were L-344's, one male and one female. There is little info on the internet about this particular species of plecos. They are about 4 inches long right now.

Could any one check out the pics I took and make an attempt?

If I need to take different / better pics to help with the ID, please let me know!

Thanks!
Ken

I'm not a plec expert, but with all south amercan cats, soft, ph around 6-6.5, plenty of green food (slices of zucchini, algae wafers) etc. I'm not sure if these are like the other ancistrus in that the males develop the bristles on the middle and egges of the 'face', but if that is the case, I'd say both of yours are female. Hopefully one of the experts will be along soon to tell you for sure.

Well I think you are right about having 2 females... Although I hope you are wrong. I just took some more pics and you can see the little bristles on the side of the heads. Both of them look identical. I remember the guy who sold them to me saying that either the male or female had those little bristles, and the other did not.

Here are the pics I just took. I swear they are not 2 pics of one fish... one pic of two fish!

Looks like i dont need to worry about setting up perfect breeding conditions for these guys!
