Hi there,
I have a Hoplo cat (along with a Bronze Cory) who was rescued from a school and certain untimely demise. Kids were constantly banging on the glass and the water was in awful shape. The two were a little shy at first, but both of them have been flourishing. The Hoplo will even come up and eat out of my fingers.
But, as of late, she seems to be getting spooked. I just walked up to the tank (no other way than i usually do, as far as i know) and she took off like a shot - right into the tank wall. She's done this several times now. I've tried moving very slowly, turning off different lights, but she's still freaking out now and again (but not always). It looks as if she might have even damaged one of her eyes. She's hit that glass HARD. I have added new fish to the tank (2 panda corys, 1 Schwartz and one Slate cory, 6 Tiger barbs), but tonight she's been extra crazy and I'm worried. She also appears to be breathing pretty hard and none of the others are.
BTW, I've watched the tiger Barbs (which i know can be bossy/ nippy) and they stay totally out of her way. I also don't have any other pets or humans i live with, so it's not possible that someone's messing with her when i'm not around. I'm concerned that maybe she's kinda brained herself, she's gone a little loopy. Am i looking into this too much? Is there something i can do to help her out?
Hoplo is stressed and skittish, what can i do to help her?

Have you got some cover... plants, a cave or two for the hoplo to go to when feeling uneasy?

Yes, i do. She seems to have gone back to her happy swimmy self again though. Perhaps she was just a little under the weather or something. Weird. Thanks for replying, though!
