Juvie L cat id needed please

Post by scat35 »

Hi,

I was fortunate to be offered some very nice young L cats today on which i couldnt pass up, I was shown a picture of the parents on which the guy was selling these juvies on behalf on him and the feedback was that they were either L 048 or L 007.
Ive managed to get some reasonable pics of these guys now i have them home and they seem to match this picture to me although im no expert.

Here are some pics ive taken tonight and would really appreciate opinions of the much more expeirenced hobbiests on this site :)

They looks like juvenile L007 to me.Definitely not juvenile L048 as they have more finer spots on the body and fins, while the L007 have large blotches instead of spots on its body.

Mouth shots indicate they are Leporacanthicus, but for most loricariids mouth shots won't identify it to species.

They are quite cute!

I'd agree that they are - now, the next question is if they are or one of the other "Black with light spots", e.g. , ... I think the only way to find that out is to grow them on a bit.

And besides from matching mouth shot, I'd say Leporacanthicus are known to breed in captivity [I'm not saying it's EASY to breed them - but they have been bred!], whereas I've not heard of anyone breeding - of course not saying they can't be bred, I'm quite confident that ALL plecos can be bred in captivity...
