Starlight Bristlenose L183 I think

I tend to say that it's NOT L183 - but a shot of the dorsal fin would help.

We look forward to pictures. There's that article about the Ancistrus hoplogenys group in Shane's World that might help.

I came to 8 as well, so either we're both right or both wrong. It rules out L183 which has 10-12 and I think it also rules out L071/L181/L249 which have 9 [to the best of my knoweldge].

L100?

I take it you don't know WHERE it was caught?

Right Mats, I dont know location on it, had a female as well, but died (at least I think it did) To many L-cats here LOL

There is no white seam on it, can the dots on the eye give some clue? I have looked and looked, and I agre that its `none of the one you mention Mats. A bit of a pussle to me.....

Any more picks that could help, before I`l put him back?
Clearly he is an adult?

According to the Shane's World article, 8 is a fin ray count for both L-numbers, but the lack of a white stripe should make it L71/L181/L249.

All those have size over 200mm? I`W had mine for nearly two years. only fish that I think match, are L-180, but then again dont match the headshape, atleast not pick one, on the other side, the last pick is pretty close???? Just thinkig out loud :D

Well it's pretty hard to tell if it has a ranunculus-like head shape from the side. If you can see it doesn't have the same head shape I'd say it's not L180.

There are pics in the Cat-eLog. It looks like it has fewer spots than the pictured fish.

In my experience, Ancistrus species grow quite slowly once they have reached some sort of sexual maturity - but they DO continue to grow. Combine that with the fact that it's perhaps not quite as ideal a situation as in the wild, they may not reach their ultimate max size (and if the size is from something like Aqualog or DATZ, it's probably TL not SL - highly likely for L-numbers that haven't got a scientific description, so take off about 20% - 160mm SL for a 200mm TL fish is reasonable, I think).

i think that is undocumented L-number by genus Ancistrus dolichopterus.

White on tail have got only young, later haven't got white on tail and dots are smaller but base is all the time very dark.
