Did a waterchange yesterday, and full "action" today That is quite normal for my spawning group. I`m a bit sloppy when it comes to collecting eggs, so it`s surwival of the fitest.LOL

Lucky you! My group has only spawned twice during the years I've had them (it's partly my own fault, as they don't have a species only tank). And I didn't get any fry from the eggs. It's a beautiful cory, and your group looks nice and healthy.

C121 is probably my favorite "normal" sized species. I cut back on breeding Corys and just keep smaller colonies of Dwarf Corys now. Some C. habrosus and my overall favorite, Corydoras hastatus. I had 10 adult C121 for over a year, they spawned a few times but none of their eggs hatched. I have always regretted my failure to obtain fry.
Then I lost them all to some disease a new fish introduced.
Failure to quarantine always ends that way and the new fish that brings the problem never seems as valuable as the fish lost because of it; they are difficult to replace. I haven't seen any for sale in the USA since I bought those original 10 about 4 years ago.

I dont have mine in a specie stank eighter Inger Anne, but they just dont seems to bother,spawn like crazy. If I`d bother take out the eggs, guess I`w had a "few"

apistomaster: never seen them in sale her in Norway, just private. All mine are used as trade so far, and the ones I`w got now, are going to the UK i believe

I bought mine at Aquamanias. I think it was what was left behind from an order made by Mona. They are beautiful cories. But mine has only spawned twice, and didn't produce many eggs either of the times. I picked the eggs, but they all went bad. But if I get eggs from them again, I will try using Aqua Medic amazon (black peat concentrate) in the water with the eggs. I know several persons have tried this with species where the eggs go bad easily.

@ Inger Anne.... I get a lot of unfertile eggs, and not to many fry, since dont bother picking them out I traded my group from Moma, some years ago.

Just did a major water change, so lets se what happens

I tried extremely soft water, low pH and a black water additives but none of my eggs ever hatched.
I think many of us who have wet thumbs seem to be better with some species than others and whatever the difference is, it can be something difficult to put your finger on.
I happen to think C121 are prettier than some very similar species like C, adolphi but I know some don't like the translucent gill covers C121's have. That is one of the features which makes them attractive to me. I would like to see them become available again even though I am not as interested in breeding Corydoras anymore. I would make an exception for C121.

It was in 2007 they were born, and I think we did the swap the next year, Birger. Or was it later that same year? Anyway, your fish was born in february 2007 (according to my notes) So your group is a little bit over 3 years old now. I remember it well because you got my first batch of youngsters from my wild caught group of C121 It was only 10 or 11 that time, but now...At the moment, I have 58 C121 youngsters in a grow-up-tank together with other Corydoras youngsters like C. condiscipulus and Green Laser.

Here's a couple of them taking a moment to reflect on life on top of a piece of bog wood It's funny to see that they are not born with that dark patch behind the gill cover, but it's something they develop at a certain size.

I give you a suggestion.You can try it on a few eggs and then do for all eggs if you will achieve.

Find wallnut tree green leaves.Cut into small pieces.For every leaf you should put a cup of water.Then boil it.Wait 10 minutes on fire after it starts boiling and take it from oven.Its colour should be red-brown,it shows juglon colour.It prevent many sp. of fungus.You can put 5 ml for 10 liter aquarium water.Keep your tank dark,because juglon is affected from light negatively.Dont try juglon in your main aquarium.Only try it for a few eggs and then if you want try it on all eggs.

There is no walnut trees growing wild in our cold climate The winters are too cold for them.

But we have similar methods to prevent eggs getting fungus;
oak leaves or alder cone extract is a good substitute.

Is your water very soft. I know a few people who have had success with the C- 121. The water had almost no measured hardness.

In Norway the tap water in general is very soft, yes (both kh and gh) Birger and I have about the same water measurements although we live a couple of hours drive by car from eachother.

The softness of the tapwater makes ideal conditions for most of the South American fish species

@ Inger Anne: They spawn if you just tell them I have a terrible rate of infertile eggs, just now, the tank is filled with white ugly eggs:-(

If you could just tell my group that... They've only spawned twice in the 3-4 years I've owned them. I think I need to move them to another tank, where they can be the only species. But right now my "spawning tank" is inhabited by my c. concolor group (which I try to make spawn) and a small group of c. loxozonus, which I really don't know where to put at all (all my tanks are stocked to the limit). So many beautiful cories, and so little space...
