CSG Convention 2011

I know it has only been six week or so since the 2010 CSG convention, but I decided to get thing up and running as soon as possible in readiness for our 2011 event. Those of you that attended this years event may remember that I announced that I had provisionally booked Dr Michael Goulding, well shortly after the announcement he confirmed that he will be available and happy to attend. Not wanting to slow the momentum I have now completed the speaker line up, which is as follows.

Dr Michael Goulding USA (2 talks).
Dr Devon Graham USA (2 talks).
Dr Claudio Oliveira Brazil (1 talk).
Dr Ralf Britz UK (1 talk).
Hans-Georg Evers Germany (1 talk).
Rupert Bridges UK (1 talk).
Bob Barnes UK (CSG presentation).

The subject matter for the talks will be announced in due course.

There will be a change to the venue for 2011 and one we believe is a great step forward. For the last two years the venues themselves have been adequate but from our point of view the service has not, so we set about looking for something better that would suit our needs and I am pretty sure that we have found the very place. It is still in the north west of England and is within a short distance of junction 27 of the M6 motorway (2.25 miles). The hotel has a 4 star rating and is in a very picturesque setting. It has 62 rooms and a conference room capable of holding 300 guests.

Booking details will be available shortly and for those wishing to attend and stay at the hotel for the full event, it will be advisable to book early as there are a limited number of rooms available to us (Provisionally 50).

For further details please e-mail.

Dr. Michael Goulding is something of a must see. Do you have titles or subjects for the speakers talks yet?

Cheers,

As yet I have not finalised the programme schedule, but both Dr Michael Goulding and Dr Devon Graham will be talking on both days.

In two weeks we will be having our annual Open Show and after that I will be concentrating on finalising the convention programme.

I dont live far from the open show venue and am considering attending. Sounds very interesting. The missus thinks I'm getting a bit obsessed with our catfish friends and it probably won't help if I go!! But what the hell!!! :)

Judging by the past two years I've been to the convention, it is a really great thing. And you can probably return to your wife clearly stating that compared to some others, you are not that extreme in your catfish-nuttynes - but that might be like telling your wife after having drunk the bar dry that you aren't quite as bad as the proper alcoholics.... ;)

Having sorted a new car out tonight I think I'm definitely going to the open show a week sunday. Really looking forward to seeing what it's all about. Also a convention dedicated to catfish sounds absolutely amazing....and a visit to the bar would definitely be on the agenda!!

Cheers Matt

Oh yes indeed. Nearly as important part of the convention as listening to the best talks! And the (aquatic/catfish) world problems we've solved during those discussions. Shame we never remember the solution the next day! ;)

I've heard that there is a terribly bad cold coming to the Netherlands around mid-March... ;)

Seriously, it's unfortunate that you can't take part. And whilst it would be great to match up with the time of holidays in schools and such, I think the difficulty is that it is either also matching with holidays in the UK - in which case it's hard to get both speakers and participants to NOT take their holidays (skiing in the alps, traveling to Spain, etc) - or it just makes it hard in general, because no matter what time you pick for some person, there is at least one other person that can't take part.

For anyone seriously thinking of coming from overseas, we can arrange transport from and back to Manchester and Liverpool airports.

I know that we are still six months away from the event, but already a third of the rooms have been taken, so to be sure you do not miss out you can book and secure your place with a £50 deposit. Just go to the CSG web site Hereand down load your booking form. Or e-mail me directly for full details or queries.

There are several reasons for choosing a date at that time of year. It seems to be a fairly quiet time in the hotel business, which means I as organiser can put the pressure on for the best deals. The fish showing season in the UK does not start usually until April, so all the show people do not have an excuse not to attend.
Air fairs tend to be cheaper outside of the holiday periods.

Just to bring you up to date with developments for the CSG's 2011 convention.

We have a change of speakers, Rupert Bridges of Tetra has had to withdraw due to changes in his position at Tetra. However we do have a replacement, also from Tetra and as soon as has confirmed he is available I will make the necessary announcements.

On the bookings front, just a little reminder that rooms are going fast so don't miss out, get yourselves booked in soon or you may find we have run out of rooms. Almost three quarters of our room allocation are now taken (37 of the 52).

After such a great 'All Aquarium Catfish Convention' it would be really great to see some of the Guys & Gals hop the pond and join us at the Catfish Study Group's annual event in March.
The company would certainly be enriched, the bar would only close when you've had enough and the variety of the fishes available that you seek will astound you.

Just contact me if you want to know more.

Hi All,

Due to changes in his work schedule, Rupert Bridges (Tetra) has had to withdraw his services as a speaker for the CSG's 2011 convention. However all is not lost, Mr David Hulse a colleague of Rupert's at Tetra has agreed to step in. His talk will be on the same subject "Fish Nutrition"

Also for the record the complete programme schedule is: -
Fryday evening

Dr Michael Goulding “How catfishes influence our perception of the Amazon”
Dr Devon Graham (After dinner talk) “Misadventures in the Amazon”
Sunday
Hans-Georg Evers “The Catfishes of Argentina”
Dr Ralf Britz “Myanmar and its fish fauna”
Dr Devon Graham “Habitats of Amazonian Catfishes” (Including Flora and Fauna).
Dr Michael Goulding “The future Amazon as a home for catfishes”

I posted my booking form just a few days ago.
I held off til now bcs I kept spending my spare cash on fish and fishy stuff!

Last year was the first one I attended and I'm looking forward to this one. I can thoroughly recommend attending, the talks are excellent, very good displays, bargains to be had, brains to be picked, put faces to names ( X_X ), and its a friendly social event for fishy people!

See you there.

Richard.
