S. Brichardi and small fish

I have a S. Brichardi that is somewhere between 15 and 20 years old. I've found that Brichardis are pretty mellow, and I've had to rehome 2 S. Angelicus over the years because they were beating up on the Brichardi.

My Brichardi may not be alive when I get home today. He has either reached the end of his normal lifespan or has maybe reached an abbreviated conclusion by being beat up by a large Black Ghost Knifefish. He is currently in a small breeding net in my tank.

I really do not wish to get rid of the BGK because he has become the star of my tank. My only other suitable tank for rehoming the Brichardi (if he is still alive) is a 90 gallon SA community tank with small tetras and cories.

Is the Brichardi safe with small fish?

Mike

yes

it's much more a grazer than it's a catfish that would feed on other fish.

Thanks. I figured that with its low slung mouth that it wouldn't be a problem.

I hope he is still alive when I get home. What is their normal lifespan?

in the wild: no idea

in captivity 20 years should be possible, maybe more.

In captivity we have the chance to prevent predation, injury & disease & therefore with good husbandry, the lifespan can reach maximum levels. i'd expect 20-25 years (as long as it gets past the current predicament)
