Difference between L411 and L260?

Now looking at pictures, i am having a hard time telling them apart. From what I have read, the L411 has more equally sized lines and the L260 has wider black(?) Stripes? I am just curious as i am trying to identify what I am really looking at. :D

Thanks,

Nate

Based on the pictures here in the catalog I think it is really hard to determine the difference between the two. I personally think the images of the 260 can be very misleading because they look so different when fully mature and there aren't many images

I had a heck of a time convincing myself that I had 260's. It took me buying a for sure mature male 260 to compare mine with to believe I had 260.

As the 260 mature their lines get closer together, and they can get tricky to identify. Especially when looking at them from farther away and not zoomed and focused using a camera.

Here is a lengthy thread of my experiences

feel free to offer your opinions on whether or not you think I have 260's or 411's haha.

L411 - at least what I have that I believe is L411 - is a much duller fish - of course, when they are somewhat stressed, they can look pretty much the same. But when settled, is a relatively small fish with black base and bright white lines. is a dark grey (nearly black) fish with grey lines. Fully grown, L411 is also a fair bit larger.

Both have a similar body pattern, but the colours are different when they are settled in.

There is also a difference in distribution, but they are from the same general area, so probably exported out of the same location.

When settled, 411 becomes a very ugly fish and you'll only see decent contrast when they're stressed out. I used to have a female-heavy group of ten but traded them in because they just didn't "do it" for me, lookswise.

A decent, but not perfect, rule is that 260's will have small spots and 411's will not. Maybe a better indicator right not is that queens will be 5x more expensive. :)

Indeed, I noticed that L411 appears to be ridiculously cheap for a Hypancistrus. I was curious why, but I guess it all just comes down to looks.

I think that is a quick and easy way to make a determination
