This specimen is abt 16 to 18inches TL. Came in with a few L330.

That's an exciting looking fish-I've never seen the like either, relative newcomer that I am. I'd be interested to know where caught.

Wow! awesome looking fish.This is definately one i have never seen before too and maybe one of the undescribed species.The far east market seem to get these new or rare species of fish before anywhere in the west,as the far east are willing to pay high prices to buy these rarity.I have seen website of aquatic shop in japan selling species i have never seen before at astronomical prices.
The fisherman in the aquatic trade knows that they can make much more money in the far east market that here in the west.So,they go to great length to seek out new species and rare fish to sell to the far east markets

Just out of curiosity, how much is it? Or is this meant to be a display tank (with all these "nice" parrots)?

Its a differently marked L330 to me. It has the same dentition as L330 (and L190) and assuming its from Colombia as it came with other L330. A new species is a bit of a push but if more were to surface it could be a new L number. Btw is it just me or does the snout seem very elongated compared to others of similar size. I have seen a couple pics fairly similar to it, although nothing quite exactly like it.

Its fairly similar to this L330 from Amazon Exotic Imports, they called it a L330 sp. camouflage.

It is indeed very similar, Matthew, to the example in your pic. As you suggest it's the elongation at the snout that first struck me, the distance between eye and tip of snout seems massive and not a little odd; as sunfish suggests perhaps this is a consequence of condition. A new L no. would be nice though-in any event it's a lovely fish!

This fish had just gone through a quarantine period. Apart fm torn fins, there is nothing wrong with the specimen. It is just the moment when those shots were taken.

This is when the fish is not moving.

It's a very nice fish. I'm not prone to sticking my neck out on here, but I'd say this is a new species.
the elongated mouth doesn't look like a deformity, to me.

Either that, or someone has been giving a Queen Arabesque anabolic steroids!

May I ask what the price is on this fish?

In the last picture it says 'watermelon $980', and Amiidae is in Singapore so its at £450 UK or $690 US.

Its not always the case, the prices can be very variable compared to the West. I would expect that fish to fetch between £300-400 in the UK, so we're not too far off the pace. But yes, for the most part, they do get the best (plec wise). But dont forget that they are far more established in the plec hobby, hopefully the West can catch up soon enough.

ya, SGD980 is for the fully spotted L330 in the tank. This fish in question is abt USD800.

like wrasse eaid it either could be a new species or maybe even hybrid??? but i might be going over the top there!!

I'm not sure one way or the other on head shape- it is markedly different in shape from any of the nigrolineatus-type Panaque- the snout and mouth seem very elongated, and the mouth seems somewhat small compared to the underside of the head.

From the picture I get the idea the Panaque is not housed properly. Could the unusual bodyshape be related to houding?

I'm assuming (but don't know) this fish is a recent import, so I'd say it's unlikely (it's entirely possible the fish was a trade-in, but I'd have thought this was less likely).
