pygmy cory's suitable for my tank.
Hi, Cory people!
Yeah, I dont know anything about cory's so thats why I'm here. Just set up a very small planted tank and was wondering if any of the pygmy cory species would be suitable. If not its gonna have to be shrimp.
It is very small, 50cmx30cmx30cm. Again scuse my ignorance, I think its too small.
thanks

That should be fine for pygmy corys, as long as you are sensible with their numbers - perhaps 10-12 of them in that tank (assuming not many other fish, of course). After all, the tank is about 45 liter/10 imp gal/12 us gal, which is absolutely enough for small corys.

I'd say at least 5, preferrably a few more.
What other fish are you having? I'd say you could have some 6-8 neon tetras as well as 6-8 or so C. pygmaeus. Give or take a couple, depending on your water changes, etc.

I would recommend a shoal of minimum of 6,as cories are mostly shoaling fish. They seem to feel much more secure when they are in a larger group.Anything less than 6 will not make them show their best.

Thanks very much for the replies. I havn't counted the cory's out but i'm leaning more to the shrimp at the moment. Thanks also for the advice on numbers. Wont be getting anything for a while, so ill have time to decide.

8 or 10 would be fine, but the main requirement in the tank is a fine sand substrate. These like all Corys, are filter feeders and suck up the sand to extract food particles.

I reckon this has enough sand to keep some little cory's happy...
Thanks for all your advice.
