Is Catfish atlas 2 yet?

Can't wait to get my hand on this book!

Me too. But as far as I know, the Vol 2 isn't available in English yet. I have no idea why.

Last time we had a thread about this, someone mentioned that the translation is complete, so I don't know what could be holding it up.

it's customary for Mergus to skip their own deadline with 5 or 10 years

happens all the time, except when they're about to publish the first part of a new series in german.

the fact tht they publish some of their books in another languge can already be assigned to miracles or acts of god

Hello all.

I recently received a forward of an email from H. Baensch regarding the Catfish Atlas 2. According to the letter there is a hold on the book waiting for better economic conditions. A lot of money would need to be spent in production (it is a huge book) and apparently Baensch is not confident of a return that would meet his needs. There is obviously a lot of this going around in all areas of commerce. It is unfortunate, but the reality of life in these times. All of us non-German readers should do like Amamda and brush up on our language skills until things get better - in that the German edition is available.

How do you think I learned to read German? Not in school, although the language was being thought there, but strickly out of books about fishes

I still use Geman only in relation to fishkeeping

I do get though a German translation, but things would be a lot easier with English...
As I understand... the new translation also have a lot of updates... it's not just a translation..., !?


I Sweden we have a expression, something like this: The one waiting for something good, never waits too long... or in my point of view, the one waiting fore something good, always wait too long...


Didn't thought this would need both prayers and a lot of money...

I can see how someone that speaks Dutch which isn't very far from German, would find it not too difficult to use the German version. But really, for anyone that knows English well, the English version would definitely be a better choice. Many years ago, I read German at school - two 40 minute lessons a week for two years. I can't say I found it easy, even if Swedish is closer to German than English.

actually my English is a LOT better than my German wich leaves a lot to be desired

German is NOT easier to read or speak or especially write than English for Dutch people

German has enormous extensive grammar wich is quite difficult to learn.
it's not as bad as French, but it comes close.

the fact that almost all the TV shows are English (or American made) on Dutch TV and that we don't do voice synchronisations except for the kiddy cartoons and that the usual advertisements of local stores are increasingly in English (!) and that the language of radio hosts and TV personalities and journalists and newspapers is soaked in English doesn't make it difficult either

that is not the case with German.

German is a real different language and the only time we encounter it is when we cross the border, read books on fishkeeping or listen to Rammstein.

getting confronted with English just requires turning on the computer, the radio, the TV, local advertizing, the news, the stereo......

I can only agree with Sid

Gemnam may be similar to Dutch - that is more similar than any other language, it is still another language, where words have sometimes a slightly different meaning (something being convenient in English is not morally wrong, calling something convenient in Spanish implys a negative moral position)

Further, in school teachers concentrate on the differences - therefore we all feel German is much harder thna it actually is.

English, on the other hand, is something we can only avoid by staying indoors, without anything plugged in

I didn't hesitate in buying the German edition, and I don't regret that decision one bit.

Its only £29, and you'd be very surprised the amount of information you can glean from it, e.g. ID photos, checklists of genera, max sizes, temperatures etc, etc.
