Larger Pleco Breeding Caves
I have yet to get any larger breeding caves for my bigger pleco species, and browsing the internet, I cannot find any available. I am looking for caves for L91 and Royal Plecos (granted I do not expect the panaque to breed in such caves but would be nice to have larger caves.)
I am just trying to see where people have been getting them or how much they cost and what size caves would be needed for such fish.

Re: Larger pl*co Breeding Caves
zcliff from plecofanatics makes caves, I have bought them and they are great. Great service , price and delivery .
He posts on here in for sale items for his caves. He may make them that big, I think he makes them all sizes.

Re: Larger Pleco Breeding Caves
And of course DIY is always an option. Caves can be made out of roof/wall/floor tiles (natural or ceramic - the latter should be choosen out of natural colours for best effect), natural stone (slate for example), wood (drill out a hole or stick various bits together - using dowels is probably a better idea than silicon - it's likely to fall apart), PVC/ABS pipes (drain/waste pipes come in larger dimensions than the "incoming" water pipes that are usually up to about 2"). There are many other options.

Re: Larger pl*co Breeding Caves
I get most of mine from http://www.plecocaves.com located in Indiana. cheap freight to you.
Next year the ACA convention is in your home state. I'm sure there will be plenty available there. Aside from buying caves I recommend you go to this anyways. http://www.aca2010.com/
Fish shows are the best places to get nice stuff like that like the one above. I recommend you go to one. The Chicago club has swap meets like 6 times a year and there are plenty of people selling caves at those. That's pretty close to you, I know I drive further. There next one is in Jan. http://www.gcca.net/
Search http://www.aquabid.com. Plenty of people there selling caves willing to make any size you want.
I could go on but that should be enough.

Re: Larger Pleco Breeding Caves
Thanks guys for the help here. I usually ordered my caves from www.cichlidbreeding.com but they do not have anything big enough for the large plecos. How big should the openings be minimum? for a 7"+ fish? I have done business with Rosenthalpottery before, he is a great guy as well, I just don't know what size I am looking for for an opening.
Are you going to the ACA2010? I am working at it and helping plan things out right now for it. I go to a few GCCA meets when I know PlecoPete is bringing some good stock, but there are too many angel fish and mbuna's and peacocks, not enough apistos and oddball fish like I go for lol.

Re: Larger pl*co Breeding Caves
My Royal in my avatar hangs out in a 2.75" cave from plecocaves. That pick is from 7 years ago. He's a big boy now.
Yes, I'm going to ACA. I've been to most of them the last 10 years except for the California one and maybe one other.
I used to buy from cichlidbreeding (commonwealth) years ago but switched to plecocaves.com as being my main supplier due to selection. Both of them are really nice people and have no complaints about either.

Re: Larger Pleco Breeding Caves
I can and have been making on shipping large caves. 4" and up. Give me your specs and I will make them for u. I will also be coming to the Milwaukee swap next sunday, if you want a monster cave let me know and I will get you one.
I can also make large sizes out of slate, although they are not as natural looking.
