Ok, how long do zebra plecos live on average? How big do they get? When do their colors start to fade?

as to age there was someone on another board that said they had a 9 year old specimen... or maybe that was here a long time ago, I don't remember, anyhow... so fairly old
Mine are at least 2 years old, and most likely 3 or 4 and other than the male getting a bit grey, they're all normal.

Hi there
length wise they all get to about the same size, as silurus said about 3", once mature, (about 2-3 years, the male gets slight more..."Butch" looking. The females stay quite sleek looking and the male gets a bit "rouged" looking.
I can't answer about the colors of the females, but as far as I know, when a male gets quite old, (The ones I have seen being around 4 -5 years), the colouration has less contrast, ie the white becomes a little more grey and the black fades slightly.
good luck
