wich kind of zapper?
this is of course some kind of electric catfish
in the old days, it was simple: all those were Malapterurus electricus
now, it's not that simple anymore, hence my question:
wich species is this Malapterurus?
and eh, no; I didn't buy this wee monster for me; it came along with a tank bought by someone at the Dutch Cichlidforum and he wants to know what kind of fish it is
;)

The photos don't show enough characters, so I can't tell you which one this is. It looks possibly like a broad-toothed Malapterurus (which rules out M. electricus), though.

Yeah, you need to catch it with your hands, flip it over, spread the pelvic fins, etc.Silurus wrote:The photos don't show enough characters, so I can't tell you which one this is.

Nice fish. I had the pleasure of caring for one of these adults at the New England Aquarium for a summer during an internship. It created a tremendous amoung of waste. I was constantly vacuuming the tank. Would love to have one at some point.

Re: wich kind of zapper?
it's a regular bucket; one of those 10-12L things
how big are these/ 25 cm, maybe 30. so it's close to that.
as said -twice- I don't have or own the fish. getting measurements or better pics is not within my powers.

Re: wich kind of zapper?
I don't know what species it is either but I had a 6 inch Electric At and I fund out how strong it could shock. It was much stronger than I expected.
Had a 30 inch Electric Eel after that. I was careful not find out how strong it could shock.
