Has anyone ever used the Rena Filstar cannister filters. I have been told by several people that work at large aquarium retailers like Big Al's that they are excellent filters comparable with eheim but cheaper. I am looking for a new filter for my 110 gallon and I would prefer a filter that is somewhat maintenance free, as I am away a lot. I have been told that the red sea ocean clear filters are great but expensive. Any suggestions?

I would stick with the Eheims, you get what you pay for. As for cleaning, all filters require some attention on a frequent basis depending on stocking levels.
