My Pictus Catfish got ick and I bought some salt to treat them. Is that the best thing I should do or should I just buy some ick treatment? Also about the salt should I add some everyday and for how long? Thanks for any help.

Don't use salt. It's not very good for your pictus. Raise the temperature of your water and use an anti-ich medication.
Ich treatments are often discussed in this forum (search for "ich" and you will find many). Here is an example.

Thanks

Ok thanks for the link. Wow I didn't know that I should raise the temperature that high for treatment. I also have 2 jack Dempseys in the tank, will they be fine if I raise the temp that high?

Also another question for you guys. One of my Pictus is constantly up in the top right corner of my tank by my powerhead. He just sits there near the surface of the water. Is this normal or is this another symptom of ich or perhaps something else?

I had a loricarid that got ick yesterday morning, I found it dead when I got home tonight (with a bottle of medication in my bag) the other fish in the tank seem to be in perfect health.

Do you think it would be a good idea to medicate (at a lessened dose) just to eliminate any chance of the other fish getting sick? Or should I just wait and see if the other fish start showing symptoms?

Tá Mé Páedrig. Ick starts life in the gills then moves onto the body, so it may not be visible at first on the other fish.
Personally if one of my fish died from Ick then I would treat the rest of the tank to be on the safe side.
