I think at some point in time, in some place, just about every single bristlenose species ever exported have been sold under the name
A. dolichopterus or
A. temminckii. It's just the two commonest names in the common aquarium books, and often the picture of the fish in the book doesn't match the name. Since shops, wholesalers and such do not necessarily [particularly in the past] have the latest, most upto-date Catfish specialist books when they decide what name to put on a tank, they just use whatever book(s) they happen to have, and the first matching picture is often taken as "Ah, that's it..."
