All~

I seem to remember but can't find a rough formula for pleco cave sizes given the size of the male? I am going to build or source some appropriately sized caves for my male - but need to figure out dimensions first.

Anyone remember / know this or have suggestions. The male is 27cm SL and 9.5 cm across the head.

Hi Jools,

I go by the rule-of-thumb: width of the male (or the female, if considerably wider) plus one pectoral fin.
Give or take a few percent never hurt yet. Especially with largish fish I also tend to use wider caves (at some point in time, both are supposed to be in there more or less).

Cheers, Sandor

Hi!

I think the cave should be 36- 38 cm lång and 14 cm wide.
I think that Ingo says something about this formula in hes article of Baryancistrus.

Square or tapered? I am coming around to thinking that tapered ends are quite good as the fish can go as far into the cave as they like for a snug fit?
