New Sailfin White patches. Bit worried!
Hello, Hope you guys may be able to help with my query.
Got myself a little Sailfin today (about 4-5"). I am not too clued up when it comes to Plecos, and am a little worried about the condition of my little guy.
His body has some white marks on that i am sure were not there when it was in the LFS.
What I am hoping is that someone can clear up what this is.
I am hoping it is normal or stress patterns at worst, but I really don't know.
My snakeheads often get a similar pattern when stressed. The white marks on my pleco doesn't look like bacterial, and doesn't appear like wounds either.
My water params are spot on, p.h is at 6.4, temp 24c.
tank is 80gal.
Here are some close ups that may help.
Thanks in advance, TokyoGasmask.

Re: New Sailfin White patches. Bit worried!
Hi,
I have two sailfin gibbiceps about 14 and 10 inches in length that I've had for about 8 months. I have not seen any white patches on my two but can say that their colouration does vary from lighter to darker and mottled - perhaps with their moods and/or their surroundings. They camouflage themselves very well amongst wood that I have in my tank.
Your gibbi may just be trying to blend in with the dark substrate and grey rock in your aquarium.
Hope that's the case.
Cheers,
Ron.

Thanks for the reply.
I really have no real expertese here, but I do think it looks more like a camoflage or stress pattern. I really hope so.

With a very recently introduced specimen, I agree.Hitch wrote:looks like normal stress colouration to me.
The fish should settle in pretty quickly, a few days to a couple of weeks.
