Hello. I am looking for help to identify this species.
They were simply sold as whiptails, being cheaper than the royal whiptails i thought i would buy them and see how they went.
3 years later i still have them both, and still have no clue what they are.
Any ideas?

Looks like a
- which species is pretty hard to say - the most common one is
, but they are quite hard to tell apart, as they tend to change colours at the drop of a hat, and other identifying features aren't easily determined.

It is very light colored but in shape it resembles
. One photo on the profile page show a light colored specimen.
Color and patterns vary but it has that "almost Sturisoma" look that R. lanceolata have.

for me, this is not the best angle to ID rineloricaria-ish species. Although, given your locality, it could very well be LG-6.

Hi,
I think Jon is right.
In the first pic it looks like as if it has two filaments in the dorsal fin. This would exclude Rineloricaria/Hemiloricaria.
In this case it is almost for sure LG 6 which in fact is somehow similar to H. lanceolata in appearance.
Cheers,

I think you mean caudal (tail) fin has two filaments.

Hi,
a species with the name Sturisoma foerscheri does not exist, this is just a usual trade name for LG 6.
Your fish is 1000% no Sturisoma.

This does look like LG6 (
), although I think the same fish is referred to as LG4 in Wels Atlas I?

The name "Sturisoma foerschi" should be discouraged from common usage, as it is a
nomen nudem, a non-existent species name.

Hi,
right.
It depends on your edition, in the first edition of Welsatlas I this genus is LG 6 and in the second edition it's LG 4.
But most people know this species under the name LG 6.
