Was just wandering how available these guys were in the uk? Are they rare in the uk? And how much are they going for if available?
Was thinking of getting of some for a new project of mine, but have never seen them in any of my lfs.

It seems alot of people are breeding these with quite abit of sucsess.

Any ideas?

L333, like all other Brazilian Hypancistrus species currently banned from export, have become increasing difficult to find.
Someone in the UK/Europe is breeding them but it may take some detective work to find a breeder.
I am raising L333 in pretty good quantities but that doesn't help you much. Good luck. If you really want them, I'm sure you will be successful in finding a source. They are a larger species than L260, for example, and much more prolific, My L333 broods run from as few as 25 to as many as 40+.

I don't consider any Hypancistrus species hard to breed.
If you have mature species and provide them with the well known environmental conditions and be patient, it is almost inevitable that they will breed for you. If I had to name any aspect of breeding them as essential it would be patience.
If you happen to begin with young tank raised specimens don't be surprised if it takes them 3 to 3-1/2 years before they begin spawning for you. These fish take a long time to reach maturity but they live long and continue to breed for many years.

Hi Andy,

I guess if you are looking for wild caught L333, you would need find someone who bought some before the import ban took effect, as is willing to sell them on.

However if you are looking for F1 fish, give Neil a call at Pier Aquatics, Wigan.

I know he has many customers breeding wild caught adult L numbers. I was there at the weekend and he had in some great F1 L066.

Neil may be able to help

Cheers
Stu

Last time i was at MA Derby they had some big adults - call them to see if they're still there.

These still seem to be about a bit in the UK so you should be able to find some about
