So are we saying this is a naturally occurring "sport" or a man-made colour morph?

It looks like an amelanistic form. Probably caused by inbreeding in captivity.

That depends on where it is from. If its wild cought it is natural. Maybe it has been selectively bred in Asia? We don`t have to approve of selective breeding, but it is not really a big issue with global impact either.

In Norway some people campaigned a lot on Internet, shops, clubs and even radio against veil tailed fish, tattooed fish and selectively bred strains in general for several years earlier in this decade. I believe that was a rather silly thing to do in a country were such fish never have been popular and never will be popular. People who brought their tennisball goldfish or parrotciclid to auctions did not get to sell. There was no was they could now that this kind of fish was "frowned upon in the fishklub". There are many important environmental issues and animal welfare issues regarding our hobby that are far more important.

It is not really my cup of tea, but that is a darn nice fish :wink: I hope you and your fish will enjoy each others company for many years.

I'm looking at the RH pectoral spine which appears broken - an often seen sign in wild capture - if it is wild it is a rare occurance, my appreciation is dwindling if it is selectively bred....

It looks "wrong" in shape to be a true redtail- the head is far too narrow even for a juvenile, and the dorsal and anal fins are shaped differently to most redtails in the CateLog. Could it be a hybrid with an ariid e.g. Hexanematicthys?

Definately NOT an amelanistic (albino) as it has black eyes, possibly a leucistic which have black eyes and no body colour (ie. white or off white/cream)
