Why do Plecostomus hang upside in aquariums? Just because they like it?

Probably. Do you mean under a stone or some such, or at the top of the tank at feeding time?

Hiding under a stone is a very good way to avoid predators that swim or fly above you, so sucking onto the underside of a rock helps the effort of hiding.

Inverting to get to food at the surface is a general method of getting food. The also eat algae on overhanging plastic in the breeding ponds when they are being bred.

I'm moving this to the Loricariidae section, where it belongs.

do you mean to say upside down? Like doing a head stand? Mine does that.

My common rests, or maybe he is sleeping, iike that. Nose down. Reckon he just likes that position. Mine is usually nose down , underside of his body against a piece of driftwood.

You are asking a question analogous to why did the chicken cross the road,
These fish have evolved to seek food and stick to every submerged surface in a stream.

Like they say.... it is just water under the bridge. I guess my Plecostomus just likes to be upside down because it feels good. What a fish!

The Pleco types of catfish do a lot of strange and interesting things. They also have interesting breeding habits and few fry are as cool to see as your first spawned in your own tanks and that never grows old. They are fascinating fish and come in sizes and colors enough to suit every tank and taste.
If something does seem very strange it is better to ask us here and find out if there is a problem or not than just letting go by an possibly missing a chance to fix a problem.
