Hi
can anyone help me, some time ago i was in my local pet shop and noticed a cichlid (pink with orange marks), in with young oscers of the same colour. I bought it and later found it to be a sp of the convict cichlid, it as been in my tank for a few months along with two discus he stoped with the discus all the time. last week i noticed the new one swimming at the side of a discus and nudging her and flapping his fins, now i have noticed he is staying in one part of the tank and stopping any fish going near COULD HE AND THE DISCUS HAVE BREED?

Sounds unlikely - they are quite far apart in behaviour and origin.

They do like to have a territory, so that's probably what is happening.

Also, the convict should really be in lower temperature water than cichlids.

I agree 100%, and I would also think to say that a convict should never go into the same tank as a discus based on pure aggression. The con tends to be on one end of the spectrum, where the discus is on the opposite.
