NEWBIE FROM TEXAS

Hi! I just found this website while doing research on BN's. I live in east Texas and have a 135 custom background tank with Red Empress, Red Jewels, Orange Scribbles, Blue Hap, and about 5 BN's. I just found a cluster of orange eggs with one of my males in a nook in the background and I am so excited because it is my first hatch! I also have a 55 with community fish and want to buy some albino long-fins to put in with them. Anyone else in Texas? I am excited about finding this forum!

Welcome to Planet Catfish.
There are a few Texans around. Dave Rinaldo is probably the most active, but there are a few others, including some in the Dallas area, I seem to remember.

Howdy back! The couple of pics I have are horrible! I have never had any eggs before from my BN's, so any advice is welcome on how to remove them once they become fry. I am afraid they will be eaten if I don't. I am also interested in buying some albino longfin BN's if anyone has some for sale, preferably juvies.

If you can clearly see things where the male is, you could wait until the fry are free-swimming, and use a hose (or turkey baster) to suck up the fry into a bucket or some such. Then place them into a suitable "fry tank" (or a fry enclosure within the big tank).

Thanks! That is exactly what I did yesterday, but I could only suck up about 7 wigglers with their egg-sac. Now I need to buy a sponge filter!

Right, my advise would be to wait until the egg-sack is absorbed - usually about 10-14 days after eggs were laid.
If your hose isn't sucking enough, get a bigger diameter hose - that gets more flow and more suction.

Well, my BN fry are doing great! I just bought a trio of albino longfins too! Will post up some pics when I can!
