Looks like some form of cyst. Not sure what it is or what to do about it, really.

I'm no expert, but I do think they can be quite "fat". Particularly as this looks like a female.

Cysts aren't good as such, but I'm not saying it's the worst thing you could have either.

However, if the fat belly occurred suddenly, I'd say it's likely bloat. All fish can get that - it's an internal bacterial infection, and it usually kills the fish within a week or so. It is very hard to treat internal bacterial infections, and they are usually a secondary infection caused by some other problems.

I have very poor success rate with medication, and I can't tell you what in Australia would be the "best" medication.

You can try with Metronidazole or other nitroimidazole treatment, safe dosage: 20 mg/l + if it's possible try to serve metro with food (I'm a follower of cureing internal diseases giving medicine also in food).

Metrondiazole should be safe. Obviously if you are treating in a community tank, there may be other inhabitants that are sensitive.

day 7th
fish still bloated ...

@flex
how do you treat with metro? wc change every day and add 20ppm of metro?

my friend saved his fish from bloat with combination of 20ppm metro and 10ppm tetracycline hcl, wc every other day and half dose of each medication, which i followed but ... no luck :(

the only good thing is the fish still quite active... though stay in pvc almost all the time.
