L024 wound, help please, see picture!! WOUND CURED!!!!

Post by 1walter9 »

helle everybody, i'm from holland, my english will be not that good, sorry about that.

i have a problem with my L024, it has a wound(something like that) on his head behind the eye, it begin very small but now after 2 months its gets bigger.
it started very small as a pimple so it was no injury.

I have started a quarantine aquarium with 2 gram salt in 1 liter water, i'm going to catch him today. Is there a medicine to treat this problem?

See picture taken with my mobile phone, sorry about that, its the only thing i have wright now.

It's rather hard to tell what it looks like from that picture, but I suspect it may be a growth of some sort, which sometimes happens. For better advice, you probably want to actually catch the fish and get a clear picture.

Might it have been a heater burn?

I believe the best treatment is to leave it alone. Quarantine serves no purpose as the sore is probably not contagious.

I'm afraid it's a cancer, one of my friends from Poland had someting like this with his Oscar

Image.

In one of polish books about fish diseases I've found this picture which also presents a fish (Xiphophorus hellerii) with cancer:

Look at those pictures, is it seems to be similar?

It may be cancer, but it may also be a cyst caused by virus or some sort of parasites. Without actually taking a biopsy (cell-sample) and examining in a microscope, it would be very hard to determine.

hmm, since no one has any idea..and I have no idea how much you bought the L024 for, or how much they're usually worth, or how dear it is to you, but have you considered taking it to an aquatic veterinarian? I'm sure they'll be able to take a tissue sample for you, and if it's an infection, i'm sure they'll be able to prescribe antibiotics for it. If it's cancer, may not be too good then :(

If it's infection one of causes may be weakening as a result of water quality, how high your ammonia, nitrites and nitrates levels are? Those fish are quite sensitive about that.

I was thinking maybe a heater burn also from the first pictures, the second pictures of the other fish is more like Lymphocystis maybe? Not really sure.

On the second pictures is definetely cancer, pictures are from book written by professor of veterinary Jerzy Antychowicz, one of the best polish specialists of fish diseases (not only aquarium fish diseases) 8)

Sure. But there are lots of reasons for growths like this. Cancer is one (and of course, that's the worst case, since it's almost impossible to do anything about - removal would work, perhaps). But there are other reasons for growths like what the fish in the original post has.

I don't think its cancer or a heather burn, my L024 is in a quarantine aquarium with 2 gram salt in 1 liter water and it seems like its working, i think it was a simple wound that was getting in infected, because the wound now is getter smaller end it issend red anymore, it begin to get dark skin again, see below. I have put the heather from 25 degrees to 27/28 degrees also.

It may be too small to sex, but if I were to guess, I would guess female. It may be too small yet to tell as it has some growing to do. If it develops longer odontes on the pec fins and gill covers it is a male. I would think that it would be much easier to find a male for a female instead of vice versa. Good luck! :foggie:
