Science News: Loricariidae - Hypostomus mutucae

Post by Silurus »

Synopsis by Shane Linder

In the July 1999 issue of Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine, Dr. Joachim Knaack describes Hypostomus mucutae from the Rio Claro, Brazil. This fish is found in the same habitat as Ancistrus claro and is known in the Loricariidae Aqualog book as LDA09. In contrast to Ancistrus claro, this species is nocturnal. The holotype was collected in the Rio Mutuca. The water temperature was 27 degrees C and the pH 6.4. Good color photos of this species and its habitat are also included in the description.
