I am unavailable

Sometime today will be my last post on PC for a while as i'm off on holiday (about a week) across the pond to the "big apple".

I'll do a quick piece about the trip when i'm back for those who've not had the chance to go yet - probably not too 'fishy' a my girlfriend has constructed the agenda (it IS her birthday after all  ).

I've been to the Bronx Zoo before & it is extremely good - i was disappointed to learn they will lose their state, government funding from next year & would ask anyone interested to sign the on-line petition or send an email urging the funding to continue. Most people either agree or disagree with zoos & the way animals are kept in captivation - the Bronx zoo struck me with how the enclosures were set up for the benefit of the animals with loads of space etc

I haven't had a chance yet to go to the New York Aquarium & i did want to see the Beluga Whales but they are currently elsewhere on a breeding project apparently :(

Anyways, adios for a lil while... :ohwell:

i might be a bit woozy but i'm definately back

Loads of pics & info for a lil write-up later in the week, needless to say it was a great trip to an awesome city.

The only catfish i encountered was Hypsidoris farsonensis (fossil) - it's not in cat-e-log so i'll send the pic to Jools when i get the chance

I grew up in New York about a half hour from the Bronx Zoo and I can tell you the conditions you describe weren't always that way. Nothing made me angrier than to see a tiger in a cage walking back and forth without too much room to turn around. Happy to hear they are caring for their animals and not just the zoo visitors.

when I was little I grew up in New Jersey, one time my father took us to the Bronx Zoo and I was small but I remember cause it was disturbing. The polar bears were green and they just paced back and forth and swung their heads, like they were going insane. It really put me off zoos for a very long time and I remember crying and my father had to carry me away from their enclosure.

I am also glad to hear it is better now.

I also do not enjoy or attend the circus. Seems sad to me.

It is actually (I have one at home - it doesn't get many water changes) but you pic is much better. Actually doesn't look anything like my fossil.

Glad you had a nice trip, I have good memories of NYC too.

This must be using the low tech concept system discussed in a previous thread
