Science News: Bagridae - Hemileiocassis panjang

Post by Silurus »

Synopsis by Shane Linder

Ng Heok Hee and Kelvim Lim have recently described a new genus and species of catfish that belongs to the family Bagridae. Hemileiocassis can be differentiated from Leiocassis by its dorsal spine having antrorse serrations which is a characteristic normally associated with Bagrichthys and Bagroides. The holotype was collected from Bogor, Java, Indonesia and measures 138.7 mm standard length. The fish is an overall plain brown, but this may be due to bleaching caused by initial poor preservation.
