L201 cave size Question

Good Evening Everybody,

I've been searching a number of forums (including this one) regarding the size cave used for L201's. Most have been helpful however I have a question. Currently I have a few 15cm bamboo caves ready to install in with my L201's (which are 5 to 7cm's in length) however before installing them I measured their internal diameter. Two are 2.3cm's high by 2.3cm's wide whilst the rest have an internal diameter of 2.5 cm's high by 2.5cm's wide. Can I use the 2.3 x 2.3cm caves or are they two small? I look forward to everyones replies and thankyou in advance for your help.

Regards,
Kak

My principle is "give the fish a choice". So if you have several caves of varying sizes, the fish will pick the one it feels most happy with.

Generally, if the purpose is to breed the fish, you should have a size that is "a little bit bigger than the breeding male". And that's the BODY of the fish, not fins stretched out. And by "a little", I mean something like 1/4 to 1/3 of the width of the body. It definitely should be a snug fit, but not so tight that the fish can't get in, obviously.

Thanks Mats. I've got a few sized caves in the tank but was more concerned that the 2.3's might be too small. It seems the L201's are enjoying the 2.3's the most. Again thanks for your help.
