Hi there...
A friend caught a lot of these babies in a small tributary in Pará State, near Belém. It looks like
Megalechis thoracata to me, what do you think?
They are tiny, BTW... The bigger ones are half an inch long.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hey,
doesn't look like any baby
I have ever seen.
It is very cute
however I am pretty sure that with 100% identyfication we will have to wait until he loose juvenile coloration.
Regards.

Hi Daniel,
Yes i would definitely say it was a
Megalechis thoracata.
Here i a picture of my F1's at 5 weeks old, about an inch long (including tail). (took today 19-2-09).
We have breed hoplo's (of all types) for about 18 years now and this is the first time we have breed from wild caught
Thoracatums and i think they look different, they seem more colourful.
We have some about 3 weeks old that look more like your picture, they look just like little bumble bees. Sorry i can not get a picture of them, they will not sit still for me, lol.
Vicky. xx

Mummymonkey, can you post those shots to Jools for inclusion in the Cat-eLog.
If you haven't done it before, the process is described as item 3 on here:
