i am not sure on my ration of M/F in my L260 tank but i notice that one of my plecos (male) was fanning his fins. does this mean that there is a female present in the tank, or do they just fan thier fins sometimes. there are 8 plecos in the 40 gallon flat back hex and 6 caves (slate and 3 PVC).
thank you,
david

Fanning is the males method of saying "If there are any females around, please visit my cave - it's fab, and I'm going to be a good father". I'd expect the male to fan even if there are no females at all present.

However, it also means, I'm about to lose conciousness and die.
If the fish are healthy and eating and the fanning is happening in and around a cave, then good. If it's not, and especially if the fish is unusually conspicuous, I'd be worried.
