I am having trouble getting this corrie to spawn. All the normal tricks are fruitless. Currently I have Tilineatus, and albinos spawning no problem. But these cats are trying me. Six of them in there own 20g long no luck. Any one here have success they wish to share? I do have definate male female combos in the group.

What temperature do you have them at? I have a group spawning quite often in the low 70F range. Last summer they would spawn maybe monthly when it was closer to 80F. They are typically triggered by a water change.

I acclimated them to a tank temp of 82 f then I have brought them down to 78f. But when I first brought them home I had a spawning but none hatched. So I have been lowering the temp. I had heard they are from Uraguay. So I thought lower temps might do the trick. The first spawn might have been a acclimation shock. When you say low 70's what temp is that ? Are you day night fluctuating the temp?

Varying from 72-74 lately, they are in a basement fishroom that is cooler in the winter. No day night variance. Water changes may take it below 70F temporaraily. From what I've seen in growing out the fry they likely low to mid 70's as well. I tried raising some fry in with some angel fish fry and the catfish fry did not do well at 80-82.

Thanks I'll start dropping the temp some more. What are you feeding? I use blood worms , HBH super soft sirulina, gut loaded brine shrimp and hikari bottom feeder.

mixed flakes and earthworm pellets on alternate days and forzen brine 2x a week. The earthworm flakes also seem to bring out the orange color very well on the fry.

Most Corydoras spp become much easier to breed when they are allowed to eat all the live black worms they can along with the repeated water changes using cool water replacement. Sometime the use of cool RO water works best. These are the things i would try. IME, only the most domesticated Corydoras spp spawn easily on a diet of frozen and prepared foods. Orange Lazers are mainly wild fish and may be expected to be more difficult to breed than established aquarium strains of Corydoras.
Black worms are not essential but some live white or Grindal worms will do the trick just as well. The key thing is that the Corys diet consist primarily of some spp of live worms.

Live balck worms and chopped earth worms started on the twenty ninth. Got an email from a freind in Spore who has had good luck with the lasers. Thank you much Apistomaster. Started a black worm culture based on a article in TFH mag.

I just found a batch of eggs from my orange lasers, prob 20-30 eggs all clumped together, and random 5-10 or so in 2 other spots. I fed nothing special, only pellet and sinking foods, mostly meat based. The only thing that has changed was I put them into a new aquarium. I moved them out of my discus tank and into a 90 gallon tank where they are the only occupants other then a group of 6 red hooks. Natural coloured sand bottom and a few large rocks and some driftwood. Colony consits of approx 10 WC and 5 tank raised. Just hoping the eggs are fertilized now.
