Substrate for cories

I have a planted tank with the back half planted up with eco complete as the substrate and the front half is a sandy area that has no plants growing on it. I'm thinking of changing the fish in there at the moment. I have some dwarf puffers, but would like to go back to a community tank and I've never kept cories before and everyone always raves about them.
So I just wanted to check that they'd be alright in this tank? It is a 240l Juwel tank, 4 foot long and has been up and running for about 8 months now. I have 2 Tetratec EX1200s running on the tank so the turnover is 10x. There is also CO2 being pumped in for the plants and I dose using the EI index for the ferts.
I've heard that eco complete might harm the barbels on the cories. Any suggestions would be grateful.
Thankyou
