Could we update the L201 file to show that breeding has been reported?

Sure, and indeed if you'd like to provide any details or images, that would be much better than "Has been bred in the aquarium"?

Well, you could put something like; "breeds in typical hypancistrus fashion, male guards about 20 eggs in a cave. Fry leave the cave in about 14 days." Sorry I don't have any real good photos, I'm hoping to get a better camera soon. I could send you what I have, though.
Thanx
Jay

Jools,
I have some pictures, I think I sent a picture of a fry L201 for some years ago...but I can send you a couple of pics next week.
Edit,
I checked the Cat-eLog and there was some pics of fry even the one I sent before, I can send some more of fry and youngsters in different ages instead.

Up to 50 eggs ?? !!! I don't think I've ever had a batch that has reached 25. But, I've had 2 batches that were a week apart in the same cave.

Your getting up to 50 per spawn? Mine spawn in a 1 inch diameter cave. Maybe I need to upgrade to a bigger cave?

My caves are 15(l)*5(w)*4(h)cm. Fish not too small - males 10-12 cm and females > 7-8 cm.

So your caves are larger. I don't know if it would have an impact, but I am going to get some larger caves for them. Nice pictures.

I have updated the data-sheet, will appear as soon as Jools approves it (which can take a few days).
I think the size of the cave is not particularly important, but the size and conditioning of the female will matter - more food may make a bigger clutch (or at least a bigger female, that will lay a bigger clutch). The size of the cave obviously needs to match the male and female.
Edit: Al, could you send those pictures to Jools (webmaster (at) planetcatfish (dot) com) with your full name and user-name here, so that he can post them to the page.

And the data is now in place. I'm moving this to "resolved". If anyone has any further comments to add, please feel free to add comments to this thread or start a new thread in the Bugs Forum.

I seem to remember updating them and certainly they were split. What have I missed?

The information about breeding is in
which is closely related to, but not EXACTLY L201. Previously, L201 was listed as a common name for H. contradens, so that is probably where the confusion comes from.
